A leading Wirral Hospital fundraiser says she has been 'blown away' by Thursday night's emergency services salute and thanked the Globe and its readers for supporting the trust with the Covid-19 support fund.
Representatives from Merseyside Police and Mersey Fire and Rescue put on a show of appreciation outside Arrowe Park Hospital, as they joined in with the now weekly 'clap for carers'.
And with hoards of hospital staff coming outside to greet them, the powerful display of unity was all too obvious.
Speaking to the Globe, Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) Head of Fundraising Victoria Burrows said: "(It's) absolutely amazing. I'm absolutely blown away by how many people have come out to support tonight from our fellow emergency services. I'm speechless, thank you.
"There's a lot of staff coming off shift that stayed on a little bit longer to see tonight, so thank you to all of them as well that have come and to you guys as well, supporting us with the appeal as well.
"It's just amazing how much the community is supporting us at the moment."
The Globe launched the WUTH Covid-19 support fund on Wednesday alongside the hospital and readers have responded positively, quickly raising over £3,000 in the first 48 hours.
The Head of Fundraising added: "We know the Wirral community is already so generous with the hospital charities so to support the hospital and all of our colleagues at the moment - we're all just blown away.
"Things like this just boost everybody, so thank you to everyone."
