PUPILS from Neston High School have brought smiles to the faces of care home residents during lockdown by sending letters, cards and drawings.

The Hazelwell - a residential, nursing, palliative and respite care in Heswall - is unable to host visits from friends and relatives at the moment after taking the necessary steps to safeguard its residents by closing it to non-essential visitors.

So in order to help cheer the residents up, pupils sent in letters, cards and pictures.

The school is four miles away from The Hazelwell which opened in 2016.

Sue Ball, care home manager, said staff are keeping residents cheery with activities at the home but were bowled over by the kindness of messages.

Sue said: "Everyone at The Hazelwell would like to say a big thank you from all of our residents to Neston High School for thinking about us and sending cards with such thoughtful messages.

"We have been overwhelmed to receive so many letters – our residents absolutely love them and many have brought tears to our eyes.

"We have really enjoyed reading them.

"It has really has brought us all such joy. It shows such an amazing community spirit."
