CLAIRE House Children's Hospice is urging Globe readers to 'Step Up’ and help boost funds by take part in their new virtual fundraising campaign.

The Step Up Challenge involves participants conquering one or all of the Three Peaks without leaving their home.

It was inspired by eight-year-old Lewis Murphy from Wirral, who hiked the height of Ben Nevis on his stairs in memory of cousin Evie, raising over £500 for the hospice.

Lewis said: "I did it to keep my cousin Evie's spirit alive."

Dad Neil said: "It was amazing to watch Lewis do his daily challenge and build up a following of supporters each day to raise vital funds for Claire House, whilst doing all important exercise safe at home".

The charity is now asking others to do the same to help support seriously ill children and their families at this important time.

Each challenger is asked to cover the distance of one or all of the mountains of the Three Peaks (Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis) a total of 22,110 steps at home.

The distance can be covered by going up the stairs, on and off a single step, or even by tracking steps around the garden or living room.

Laura Fallon, Challenge Fundraiser at Claire House, said: “We’d love for everyone to support Claire House by taking on this challenge, and can’t thank Lewis enough for his amazing idea.

“By taking part in Step Up, you’ll be helping Claire House to keep the children we care for safe and out of hospital. Not to mention, you’ll be getting some exercise and supporting your own mental health too!”
