MORE than 400 people have joined an army of voluteers that is ready to respond to challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic in Wirral.

The big-hearted residents have signed up as community volunteers after a joint appeal by Community Action Wirral and Wirral Council.

And you can still join them.

A council spokesperson said: "The volunteers come from all walks of life and offer some very specialised skills as well as more general ones.

"Organisations looking for some additional help to deliver vital services and carry out important work in support of fellow Wirral residents in need are now invited to tap into this skill pool and set them to work.

"To find out how to do that, contact Keelan Early at Community Action Wirral - email keelan.early@communityactionwirral.org.uk.

"Even though the response has already been overwhelming, the call remains for further volunteers from people who think they have skills to offer at this time."

To boost the speed at which volunteers can be mobilised within the community, the council and CAW is offering a limited number of free and fast-tracked Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, which are needed for people to volunteer in some environments.
