SIR - Re Alan Bates, (T&A letters, March 3). Mr Bates says that the Prime Minister "got by far the most votes in two elections", (sic). Johnson/the Tories actually got less than half.
A maths lesson, Al: If 10 candidates are standing, with the vote evenly split, the winner could have 10 per cent plus one vote. Now explain why 10 per cent and one thousandth is "the most":
