A 100-mile cycling challenge was among a year of events that helped a Wirral golf club raise £6,200 for the British Heart Foundation.

Each year The Warren Golf in Wallasey announced which charity it will support and this year the BHF was chosen.

Over the past 10 years the club has donated more than £25,000 to local charities.

The 100 mile cycle challenge raised more than £4,000 in sponsorship alone for the charity.

Club captain Gareth Macintosh-Jones said: "We’re delighted to be supporting the great work of the BHF.

"We had a great time raising funds and I would like to personally thank all the members that were involved."

The club opened in 1911 and is run entirely by volunteers.

Each day a small army of supporters cleans and carry out repairs to the club house and course.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has awarded 38 free 'Call Push' rescue kits to local schools and community groups in Wirral to teach lifesaving CPR kits, and part-funded 82 defibrillators.

The charity is currently investing £23.5million into research in the North West, searching for better ways to prevent, diagnose, treat and cure heart and circulatory conditions.

Hayley Gough, BHF fundraising manager, said: "We're so grateful to all at The Warren Golf Club for their wonderful support this year.

"There are around 46,500 people in Wirral living with the daily burden of heart and circulatory diseases.

"By funding ground-breaking research, the BHF has a vision to beat heartbreak forever."
