Tranmere remain cut adrift in the League One relegation zone after losing 3-1 against promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

The Chairboys took the lead in first half injury time as Rovers, once again, conceded from a set piece, with Anthony Stewart bundling home Joe Jacobson's corner.

Tranmere equalised a few minutes past the hour mark with James Vaughan netting his first goal for the club with a shot from the edge of the box that nestled into the bottom right hand corner.

Scott Davies denied goalscorer Stewart from grabbing his second of the afternoon in the 67th minute, getting down low to palm his header away following another cross from the dangerous Jacobson.

But with 19 minutes remaining, the hosts re-took the lead when burley forward Adebayo Akinfenwa headed a Fred Onyedinma cross low past Davies into the net.

Rovers misery was then compounded when Davies brought down Alex Samuel in the box for a penalty, which was duelly converted by the left foot of Jacobson.

Tranmere are now without a league win since December 21 and with AFC Wimbledon drawing at home to Blackpool, now have an eight point deficit to recover.
