SAINTS boss Kristian Woolf says his side has to match the tough, relentless approach of back-to-back NRL Premiers Sydney Roosters tonight (7.45pm) if they are to be crowned World champions.

But he has confidence in his group to do themselves justice in what will be the fourth meeting between the two sides.

They are still seeking their first win against the Tricolours - but despite the obvious strength and talent of the reigning World Challenge Champions, Woolf believes his Saints team's honesty and industry gives them every chance.

Woolf said: “Roosters are a world class side and have been the best club side in both competitions this past two years.

“They are a class outfit who are very well coached and they have strike across the whole field and are going to be very hard to beat.

“They play a very tough, relentless brand of footy too – so we need to match them in those areas if we are going to win the game.

“We need to back ourselves as well.

“It is a great challenge and opportunity for us. Everyone knows how strong a side they are.

St Helens Star:

“But Saints were a dominant side last year and have certainly deserved that opportunity at a big occasion.

“I have been impressed with the group since I got here.

“We have a very hard-working and honest group here and we are going to give ourselves every chance because of that.

“We have to make sure we concentrate on ourselves and play to our strengths and if we do then we are at our best we are going to be hard to beat.”

Roosters are bossed by former Catalans coach Trent Robinson, who knows plenty about Saints and the style they play.

He sees the patterns brought to the Saints style since 2016 by former Roosters coach Justin Holbrook and has also picked up on the tweaks to their game early on in the season.

“There are similar set ups (to Roosters) in the way that they play, but they have adapted to the unique styles of their players as well.

“Saints have been a club that has played a certain style for a while as well, but there are some things they are trying to do in the early rounds as well – some bits that Kristian has added to their game," he said.

The game kicks off at 7.45pm - and there are currently tickets left in the East stand.
