A TRAINEE accountant is celebrating after winning another international competition.

Alice Williamson, who works at Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, successfully competed in the Inaugural Britannia Cup held in Nottingham.

The competition saw 75 teams, in 13 categories take part over three days from January 11 to January 13, 2020.

Trainee accountant Alice competed with two teams, the Whizz Kids, who won their category and the Bladerunners, who came second in their category.

Alice, who has been at Ellis & Co since 2015, first began ice skating 10 years ago.

“I was introduced to ice skating when I went for my birthday, then I started taking lessons with one of my friends who was also keen,” said Alice, 25, who stared in a skating advert back in 2013.

The win follows on from a busy year of competitions, including a first place at the World Open Inline Figure Skating Championships and being placed second in the British Synchronised Ice Skating Championships.

But of course with podium glory comes lots of training: 90 minutes twice a week at Deeside Ice Rink; and then at Altrincham in synchro which includes one hour on the ice, and one hour off the ice.

“We were all thrilled to have done so well in Nottingham,” said Alice.

“We felt like all the hard work and early morning training sessions paid off.”

And there is no rest for the skating accountant who will be competing next month in the Trophy D'Ecosse in Dumfries, Scotland; followed in March by the Steel City Trophy in Sheffield.

“Once again huge congratulations to Alice,” said Robert Ellis, director of Ellis & Co.

“It takes a serious amount of training and dedication to participate in such events, we wish Alice every success for her next competitions.”
