A running club in Hoylake is encouraging people to make a New Year’s resolution to get active in 2020.

Hoylake-based BTR Road Runners is organising its very first Couch To 5K training programme which starts in February.

The group of runners want to support beginners to the sport or those keen to get back into running.

BTR Road Runner member Audrey Stocker, who is co-ordinating the Couch To 5K programme, said: “After a hectic and stressful festive season, there is nothing better than pulling on your trainers and getting out into the fresh air for a run.

“A new year brings with it a fresh outlook and the opportunity to make a change – so this is the perfect opportunity to join BTR Road Runners for our very first Couch To 5K programme. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to those wanting to get back into running, or even those who want to join a group to run regularly.

“The programme officially starts on February 18, but you don’t have to wait until then. Come along to sample our friendly running group any Tuesday or Thursday evening in Hoylake.”

Those who sign up for the eight-week programme will be encouraged to run twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday, with a third run planned for the weekend. Everyone taking part will be given a training plan to help assist their challenge.

The first session will start at 6.30pm on Tuesday February 18, with the group meeting at Whitt’s End Bar on Market Street.

The final run of the programme will be the BTR Medal Muddle 5K fun run at 11am on Easter Monday 13 April at River Park in Bromborough.

The BTR Road Runners Couch To 5K programme is free, however participants are being encouraged to make a £1 donation per session which will go to good causes. Funds raised through the initiative will be split between Claire House Children’s Hospice and Leukaemia Care.

Since August, BTR Road Runners has staged four Medal Muddle fun runs across Wirral. The innovative mobile 5K event series encourages and supports new runners, upcycles running T-shirts and medals, and raises money for local charities. It has been hailed a huge success.

BTR Road Runners will be staging Medal Muddle events throughout 2020, full details will be announced shortly.

The group meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.30pm from Whitt’s End Bar on Market Street in Hoylake. Beginners and experienced runners are welcome.
