INVESTIGATION: Officers at the scene of the grim discovery near Borough Road
THE body of a man who suffered head and burn injuries was found on a bonfire this morning.
The man, who has not yet been named was discovered in the smouldering fire at 1am, on Quarry Bank off Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead.
Firefighters, police and rapid response ambulance crews attended the scene but the man was already dead on their arrival.
Police are treating the death as unexplained and a post mortem is due to take place.
A police spokesman said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area between the hours of 12am and 1am to come forward.
"Anyone with information can call Birkenhead CID on 0151 709 6010."
