A TRAVEL agent in Birchwood is helping to raise vital funds so a young mum can receive overseas cancer treatment.

Hays Travel Birchwood is selling raffle tickets for £1 per strip to be entered into a prize draw to win £100 Hays Travel voucher to be used in the store along with other prizes.

Manager Kim McGlashan, is hoping to raise as much money as possible for her relative Rachel Higham who needs proton beam therapy in Germany.

The 32-year-old was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2015 and after several years of treatment and operations, things started to return to normal.

Tragically in October, a routine MRI scan revealed the tumour was growing again.

Rachel's doctors advised a course of radiotherapy to stunt the growth for a extended time but she is not able to have any further brain surgery due to the location of the remaining tumour.

The mum-of-two hopes to receive proton beam therapy available in Germany.

Writing on her Justgiving page, Rachel said: "I have two children called Eva and Jude, they are my life and I draw my strength from them both.

"I also have a husband to be who is my world and without him I don't think I would be here.

"No family should have to go through so much suffering especially one so young as us.

"What we as a family are asking is for you to donate so we can still be a family together and watch our children grow up.

"My time is very precious and without the proton beam therapy treatment I may not have a lot left.

"Next year I am getting married it would be mine and my families dream for me to be there and be healthy."

Raffle tickets are now on sale and all funds raised will be donated to Rachel and her family.
