A MAN is in hospital and a puppy has died after being hit by a private hire taxi in Wallasey.

Emergency services were called at around 6.30pm on Monday, November 25 to the junction of Brighton Street and Buchanan Road following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a Peugeot Expert private hire taxi.

The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, received serious head and facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Sadly, a puppy owned by the man died at the scene.

The driver of the taxi stopped to assist police with their enquiries.

Merseyside Police are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
