A FIREFIGHTER from Wirral is preparing for a North African mountain challenge in aid of a charity that provides support services for colleagues.

Karl Davidson will walk 4167 metres to the summit of Mount Toubkal in a bid to raise 'significant funding' for The Firefighters Charity.

And the 21-year-old from Spital needs your help to raise sponsorship.

Looking forward to the challenge he told Globe: "I have never done anything like this before, so over the next several months I will be tackling some new challenges and undertaking some further training sessions to best prepare myself for the expedition next year.

"It is a truly magnificent cause that ensures the people who are called upon in the public's worst time of need also have somewhere to turn to for help."

Karl has worked as an Aviation Firefighter for almost two years now at Hawarden Airport in North Wales (Airbus, Broughton). He is also a volunteer for Merseyside Fire and Rescue service.

His job is to provide airfield fire cover for any aircraft accidents, full emergencies, local standbys and ground incidents.

The charity provides help to Fire service personnel and their families in their times of need-they provide a wide range of services, including physical support, such as post-injury or illness in the form of rehabilitation, psychological support.

Karl continued: "The charity is one exceptionally close to my heart and they rely on donations from the Fire community and general public massively to fund their services every year.

"I know of several people within my workplace who have used the facilities in Cumbria and they described them as phenomenal with the care and rehabilitation programmes being exactly what they needed to help recover from their health problems."
