A BROMBOROUGH based award-winning singer/songwriter is rapidly becoming one of the biggest names in the UK's country music scene.

Stevie O'Connor, originally from Tuffley in Gloucester, moved to Wirral 11 years ago, making the borough his home with his family.

Just this month alone, Stevie was crowned the UK's Country Entertainer of the Year as well as being nominated for Male of the Year at the 2019 British Country Music Awards (BCMAs).

Held at the Concorde Conference Centre at Manchester Airport, the awards gave Stevie the opportunity to play alongside US country star William Michael Morgan who has performed at the holy grail of music venues - Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

But his award-winning ways do not end there.

He has previously been nominated for Country Artist of the Year by Country Airplay Artiste and UK Country Male Artist of the Year by UK Country Radio.

Being part of the fastest growing music genre this year in the UK is something Stevie is incredibly proud of, he told the Globe: "Country music appeals to me because its about truth, the stories and the empathy that resonates in country music.

"I have written songs ever since I can remember and toured extensively for years in various set ups.

Wirral Globe:

"Currently I have a band who are known as the Rocinantes, but I go out as simply Stevie O'Connor."

Driven from Texas country/ Honky Tonk, Stevie takes influence from idols such as Willie Nelson, Don Williams and Waylon Jennings and is currently recording his debut album Fairway South, set to be released on White Feather Records next year.

He added: "My album will feature many childhood experiences of my hometown, as well as life in Wirral and is hugely anticipated on the scene."

This year Stevie has performed at the likes of Millport Country Music Festival where he shared the mainstage with Grammy Award nominated CAM and Dixiefields Festival where he headlined the opening night alongside the likes of Ward Thomas and Remember Monday.

Stevie's next Wirral show is with local singer and another rising star in the Country circuit, Megan Louise at the Thornton Village Club on Saturday, December 15.

Proceeds from tickets sold will go to the Young Minds Charity who ensure youngsters get the best possible mental health support.
