A MUM-of-one has written and illustrated her second children’s book after being inspired by the Newton-le-Willows High Street.

Sarah Wilson, who lived in Newton for five years and now lives in Oswestry, penned the book The Shoe Foxes (Tales of Willow Park) in November last year based on a shop she saw on the high-street.

It sees three foxes have to work hard to treat themselves to a pair of shoes, now following on from that she's penned and illustrated Dragonfly Pie, a story of geese and how they settle disagreements.

Sarah, who goes by the pen name Sarah Parkinson or Sparky, 33, said: “I loved living in Newton-le-Willows so both books are based there, Dragonfly Pie is based at Willow Park and is based on how we can all settle disagreements.

"It tells the story of geese trying to sleep but the dragonflies buzz in their noisy dance shows, so the geese decide to bake them in a dragonfly pie to make the buzzing go quiet.

"But someone saves the day and helps them settle their problems.

"After the previous book I got such confidence from the feedback, plus I loved doing it so I just had to write another one.

"I think that this is an important message to young children, especially in the world we currently live in, that we don't all have to agree but we have to work together to settle disagreements.

"I have loved doing the illustrations for this one too so I hope everyone loves them as much as I loved creating them."

The book is aimed at children aged between two and six and has a rhyming style to keep children captivated and educate them on wildlife they might not know as it also has a facts section at the end to encourage them to find out more about each animal.

The book, costing £7.99, is available via this Amazon link.
