WARRINGTON welcomed a BBC crew to the town today, Wednesday.

BBC Radio 4’s PM programme broadcast today's show from the Pyramid in the town centre, from 5pm to 6pm.

It has adopted Warrington South as a ‘go to’ constituency due to the fascinating race for the marginal seat, which is a key battleground in the general election.

During the show, our Local Democracy Reporter Aran Dhillon and BBC political reporter Phil McCann joined PM programme presenter Evan Davis.

Warrington Guardian:

Issues discussed included Brexit, green belt land, plans for a new hospital in the town and the borough's swing bridges.

Five candidates will contest the seat on December 12.

Labour’s Faisal Rashid is hoping to retain it.

In 2017, he secured a majority of 2,549 over former Tory health minister David Mowat.

Mr Rashid will be contesting it against Tory Andy Carter, Liberal Democrat Cllr Ryan Bate, the Brexit Party’s Clare Aspinall and the Social Democratic Party’s Kevin Hickson.
