BIRKENHEAD shoppers are being invited to take part in a Happy Heart event at their local British Heart Foundation store.

Taking place on Friday, November 29, the store based at 20-26 Milton Pavement on Grange Precinct will be offering shoppers valuable heart health information and opportunities to learn CPR from 10am until 2pm.

Customers will also be able to have their blood pressure testing in store.

The first twenty people who enter the store on the day will be able to take part in a free CPR training session while others will be given the chance to sign up to future sessions to ensure more people have the vital life-saving skill.

BHF store manager, Lisa Roberts said: “We really want to encourage the local community to attend our ‘Happy Heart’ event on 29 November.

"It is a great opportunity to learn more about keeping your heart healthy and learning CPR skills, to help save more lives and keep the hearts of Birkenhead beating happily.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their generous donations and shopping with us over the past nine years, without your generous support we couldn’t continue to raise funds to support the charity’s vital work.

“We are always after good quality donations so if you are having a clear out in the next few weeks, we would love to receive any unwanted furniture and home accessories – we even offer a free collection service.

"If you would rather give the gift of time, we are always in need of volunteers who can spare a couple of hours a week, so please get in touch if you are interested.”

With more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year and the overall survival rate in the UK remaining stubbornly low at less than one in ten, the BHF are determined to create a 'Nation of Lifesavers' and make sure as many people as possible are trained and confident in administering CPR.
