DETECTIVES are looking for a gang of would-be burglars who attempted to break into a cash machine in Wallasey.
Emergency services were called at around 12.30am today (Tuesday, November 12) following reports that an alarm was going off at McColl's on Trafalgar Road.
The gang cut open a shutter and smashed a window to access the store before attempting to grab a cash machine inside.
They left the scene empty handed after being disturbed by police officers.
It is believed they drove away in an Audi S1 car and left a Volvo along with several tools at the scene.
The Volvo and the tools have been recovered and are currently being examined by forensic teams.
Officers are currently in the area working with staff at McColl's as well as carrying out house to house and CCTV enquiries.
