OUTGOING Saints coach Justin Holbrook has departed from Manchester Airport today as he returns to Australia to take charge at Gold Coast Titans.

The Saints coach has transformed the club's fortunes since taking over in May 2017, with his time in charge culminating in the Super League Grand Final win over Salford earlier this month.

Holbrook also won two consecutive League Leaders' Shields, with the team finishing a record 16 points clear at the summit in 2019, losing only three league games all season.

The Australian has also been renowned for the role he has played in the wider community, helping to reconnect the club with the town to leave a legacy beyond the achievements on the team's achievements on the rugby pitch.

Private hire firm Clear executive Travel posted a photograph on social media after taking Holbrook to the airport for his flight back Down Under where he will take up the Gold Coast Titans role in the NRL.

After transporting Justin and his luggage to the airport Clear Cars, a St Helens firm with an upcoming office on Duke Street to open, said: "Well that was a squeeze but we would like to thank Justin for his support of our business over the last two years. It's been an absolute pleasure. Safe flight and good luck."

Reflecting on his time in St Helens after the Grand Final, Holbrook said: "I've loved it, it's been absolutely brilliant. Since the day I got here, I've loved coaching this side and I've loved the responsibility of the town.

"I thought I'd be a lot more emotional at full-time but I was just proud and privileged to be in this role for the boys to deliver the trophy."

Fans have also expressed their gratitude and best wishes to Justin on the Star website and social media channels.

Chasing Shadows commented: "Thanks for turning things around Justin and making Saints a happy place to go again with wonderful rugby and, this year, not a single loss at home. Good luck for the future down under! We are champions!"

Meanwhile, rlfan75 added: "Thanks for giving our town something to be truly proud of in these tough times. Best wishes for the future. A Saint for life."
