AN inspirational young fundraiser took on the 'Lidl Mudder' challenge for the British Heart Foundation in his great grandmother's memory.

The £600 raised by seven-year-old Oliver Starkey from the very muddy fun event will be used to fund life-saving research into the disease.

Oliver, who attends Fairfield School in Widnes, took it upon himself to raise as much money as possible for the BHF by taking on monkey bars, ropes and lots of mud.

He asked family and friends and also work colleagues of his parents and Grandparents for sponsorship for his event, which took place at Cholmondeley, South Cheshire in September.

Oliver's Great Grandmother Edith sadly lost her life to heart and circulatory disease and this is what spurred him on to take on the challenge and to support the British Heart Foundation.

Every three minutes someone loses their life to heart and circulatory disease which devastates the lives of those they leave behind.

Thanks to the public’s generosity, the charity is funding research central to discovering vital treatments for people living with these conditions.

Oliver said: "I can't believe I've raised an incredible £600 for the BHF.

"I loved running through the mud and my favourite part were the monkey bars.

"I want the money I have raised to help other families and I'd love for more people to raise money for this charity as it helps so many people.

Leah Goodhind, BHF fundraising manager for Cheshire said: "I am absolutely blown away by Ollie's fundraising efforts.

"He's a complete inspiration and has shown that no matter what age you can take part in all kinds of fundraiser's and help to raise money towards the BHF’s lifesaving research.

"We're incredibly grateful to Ollie!"
