DETECTIVES have launched an appeal for witnesses two homes in Widnes were burgled on the same day.

The burglaries took place on Wednesday (October 9).

The first, at an address in Derby Road between 9am and 8pm, was followed in the nearby Boxgrove Close between 2.30pm-10.30pm.

Offenders broke into the houses whilst no-one was home and conducted untidy searches.

A quantity of jewellery was stolen from the address in Derby Road.

Nothing is believed to have been stolen from the house in Boxgrove Close.

Enquiries in relation to the incidents are ongoing and detectives are urging anyone with any information or footage that may be relevant to their investigations to come forward.

Detective Constable Stuart Clay, of Widnes Local Policing Unit, said: "Burglary is a serious offence in which victims are targeted in their own home, which is the place they should be able to feel most safe.

"We are investigating two burglaries in Widnes which occurred on the same day and may well be linked.

"Enquiries are ongoing and we are determined to establish who was responsible for the burglaries and bring them to justice.

"As part of our enquiries we are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Derby Road between 9am and 8pm or the nearby Boxgrove Close between 2.30pm and 10.30pm on the day the burglaries occurred and witnessed anything suspicious to get in touch.

"The same goes for anyone who believes they may have seen, or have CCTV or dashcam footage of, any of the offenders or have information regarding their identities."

Anyone with information or CCTV footage that may help the investigations should call Cheshire Constabulary on 101, quoting IML 534906 (Derby Road) or IML 534990 (Boxgrove Close), give the details via https://www.cheshire.police.uk/contact/general-enquiries or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
