SEVERAL roads will be closed in Chester city centre on Saturday (October 12) as the city welcomes Cheshire Yeomanry for the Freedom of the City parade.

Cheshire’s historic Army Reserve cavalry unit, C (Cheshire Yeomanry) Squadron of the Queen’s Own Yeomanry, will be exercising their Freedom of Chester by marching in a parade from Chester Castle to the Town Hall. This will take place mid-morning on Saturday.

C (Cheshire Yeomanry) Squadron is Cheshire’s local Army Reserve Light Cavalry sub-unit, based at Fox Barracks.

This year is the 225th anniversary of the wider Yeomanry and the 80th anniversary of the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) which it forms the reserve component of.

The Cheshire Yeomanry was awarded the Freedom of the City in 1996 by the former Chester City Council.
