SIXTY Cubs from across the district tackled the first ever Mersey Weaver Miles Cub Hike.

The 4km hike across Frodsham and Helsby Hills from fourth Frodsham to 1st Helsby Scout Huts included several challenges culminating in a set of navigation activities at their destination.

Teams representing eight groups took part and worked together to have fun, develop skills for life and earn points along the way to compete for the Mersey Weaver Miles trophy.

Joel, from 1st Weston & Weston Point Cubs said: "The hike was interesting and exciting, especially the part when we went into the wild forests.

"I didn't like walking up the mountain, though. I'm sure there's an alternative route!"

When the challenge points were totalled, the winners of this inaugural event were third Frodsham, with 1st Ince & Elton in second and third and ninth Runcorn in third.

Yvonne Woodward, assistant district commissioner for Cubs, said: "All participants and helpers were superstars and received their well earned badges and certificates with pride in their achievement.

"I bet they slept well that night!"
