A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found at a flat in Bidston.
Emergency services were called to West Park Gardens just off Fender Way at around 11am on Wednesday following reports of an unexplained death.
A 63-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene and has been taken to a local police station for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Wilson said: "An investigation has been launched however we are in the very early stages and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
“Officers remain in the area and will be carrying out forensic and house-to-house enquiries.
"A cordon is currently in place at the scene.
"A Home Office post mortem will take place to establish the cause of death and next of kin have been informed.”
