A WARNING has been issued after fake banknotes have been passed around Wallasey.

Merseyside Police say that they have received a 'number of reports' of fake £20 notes being passed in and around Egremont.

It is believed the the notes have a 'convincing hologram' but have 'faults elsewhere.'

Residents are now being urged to check their bank notes.

Counterfeit banknotes cannot be reimbursed and if you have a fake note you must take it to your nearest police station.

The police will then fill out an NCO-1 form and hand over a receipt with an incident number.

All suspected counterfeit notes will then be sent to the National Crime Agency and the Bank of England.
