A HESWALL woman has been shortlisted as a finalist in this year's Specsavers' Spectacle Wearer of the Year award.

Rebecca Purewell, 26, could now be in with the chance of winning £10,000 and have the chance to mingle with the stars at the annual ceremony in London which takes place next month.

She told the Globe: "I’ve worn glasses since I was five years old and always used to feel self-conscious – but now I’ve embraced it and made it part of my style.

"I’m excited to be chosen as a regional finalist and love my new specs from the Heswall team!"

Rebecca was invited to Specsavers' Heswall branch to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.

Robert Byrne, director at Heswall Specsavers, said: "The Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition is one of the biggest dates in the Specsavers annual calendar, so to hear that one of our own customers had been selected was brilliant news to hear.

"Everyone in store is wishing her the absolute best for the next steps of the competition.

"We’re rooting for her to go all the way and scoop the grand prize at the October finals in London."

The awards were launched by Strictly Come Dancing star and TV personality Oti Mabuse earlier this years and there are eight chances to win with categories including a social media winner voted for by the public.

All category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
