TRIBUTES are being paid to a retired Merseyside Police dog who has passed away.
Melvin, who had been adopted from Dogs Trust, had worked for the Merseyside Police dog section for seven years and trained as an explosion detection dog.
During his time he provided dog support at many high profile events and venues including the 2012 Olympics.
Merseyside Police Dogs Twitter account announced Melvin's death yesterday (Thursday, November 19).

Since the Tweet, hundreds of people have sent their condolences to the team.
Allison said: "RIP Retired Police Dog Melvin hugs to your family, amazing service."
Another follower wrote: "What a great career, run free over the bridge Melvin with the sun on your fur and thank you for your service x."
Kenshortall said: "Rest easy Melvin. So many people affected by the loss of PD’s. Their puppy walkers, handlers, handlers family and their retirement humans."
Rehoming charity Dogs Trust penned: "We are so sorry to hear this."
Shaz_England replied: "Oh Melvin. Thank you for everything that you did for us to keep us safe. It's treats every day over the rainbow bridge. Sending my love to your family because they miss you. Sleep well little one. RIP."
