A CARDIAC specialist nurse from Wirral who had a Left below knee amputation four years ago is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa in aid of a challenge helping fellow amputees recover and needs your support.

Bebington born Tracy Kitto, who is the Lead Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse in Community Health Newham, London, will take on the challenge with husband Kevin starting on October 2.

Proceeds will go to LimbPower, which uses sport, exercise and activities to aid the rehabilitation of amputees.

Tracy, 54, who attended Wirral Grammar School told the Globe: "There will be 10 amputees, a few non-amputees and two prosthetists on this eight-day trek.

"We will all be supporting each other to the summit in a bid to raise money for this amazing charity.

"The hardest thing you have to deal with is the altitude, you can't really train for that. Getting fit has been our main aim, as well as ensuring my prosthetic fits and is suitable for the trek.

"I live close to Epping Forest and walk there whenever I can."

Since Tracy's leg amputation four years ago, she has set herself a number of challenges with Kevin.

They have sailed a tall ship from London to Quebec City via the Faroe Isles and Iceland as part of a volunteer crew and have done a couple of 5 Km fun runs.

Tracy has also returned to scuba diving, climbed over the O2 in London and returned to the job she loves, nursing.

In a message on her Justgiving page, Tracy describes the mountain climb as "probably the biggest challenge I've undertaking and will require discipline, dedication and a lot of training.

"I have been fortunate to have Kevin, my family, friends and work support me in my activities, but not everyone has that support, encouragement or confidence."

Limbpower supports people, especially children, to get active.

They arrange weekends to introduce sport and activities to those that thought it was beyond them.

Tracy added "Last year I attended one of these sessions and was rockwall climbing, cycling and sailing.

"I saw people gain confidence and learn from each other".

"This is not an easy challenge but with your help and support we will conquer Killamanjaro.

Please help us raise funds to enable more amputees to fulfill their potential".
