PASSENGERS onboard Merseyside buses will be able to purchase a half-price ticket this weekend.

Better By Bus is supporting Car Free Day on Sunday, September 22 by offering passengers the chance to buy a half-price ticket on both Arriva and Stagecoach's mobile apps.

Lisa Pearson, campaign conductor at Better By Bus, said:“Car Free Day is the perfect opportunity to think about how you get from A to B and do something good for the environment.

“We’re extremely proud of our current fleet of low emissions buses, and we are looking forward to adding 25 hydrogen-powered buses to the fleet next year, which will emit zero emissions.

“Of course, we already know that getting on the bus has a number of benefits, including contactless payment, free wi-fi and USB chargers, but we also think that recent news coverage around extinction rebellion protests and climate emergencies has helped people realise that something must change soon.

“We would encourage anyone who is interested in reducing their carbon footprint to use our Car Free Day bus ticket on Sunday and see for themselves how easy it is to help protect the planet.”

Car Free Day is an international event that happens yearly in a bid to highlight the impact that air pollution and congestion has on the quality of the air, particularly in urban areas.

Better By Bus is led by Liverpool City Region’s Bus Alliance, which is made up of Merseytravel, Stagecoach and Arriva. T

he alliance formed in 2016 and aims to get more people on board by promoting the numerous benefits of catching the bus.
