ELLESMERE Town Council has proposed to form a Climate Change Working Group and policy after increasing nationwide concerns surrounding the environment.

At the council’s last meeting earlier in the month, councillors were asked whether they would like to be part of a Climate Change Working Group and whether they had any suggestions on how to make Ellesmere more ‘green’.

Councillors were in agreement that the community should be involved in plans to be a more environmentally-friendly town and were keen to think up ‘quick fixes’ over a short timescale.

Cllr Geoff Elner was one of the councillors enthusiastic about the idea and made suggestions as to what could be done to aid sustainability in the town.

“What about using paper bags in shops?” he asked.

“We could have somewhere people could refill bottles too.”

The council also discussed the possibility of purchasing air quality monitors.
