POLICE have arrested a 15-year-old boy after an incident involving a machete near the Pyramids Shopping Centre.

At around 10.50am on Wednesday, September 11 police were called to near an entrance of the shopping centre just off Salisbury Street following reports of men arguing.

One of the males pulled out a machete during the confrontation.

The group then ran off towards woodlands near to Borough Road.

A 15-year-old boy from Birkenhead has now been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

A video of the incident was shared on social media and caused concern among many Globe readers.

Inspector Chris Lucan-Pratt, said: "This disturbance was really concerning for shoppers who witnessed it and we understand wholeheartedly the impact it has had on the wider community. I would like to reassure members of the public that we will not tolerate this type of criminality in our communities and have increased patrols in the area.

"A Section 60 order was put in place between 4.20pm and 2pm.

"The mobile police station was on the Woodlands this morning and will be back there tomorrow (Friday, September 13) and is currently at ASDA on Grange Road and will be there until 4pm today.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have information which could help us find those responsible to contact us."
