MERSEYSIDE Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Wallasey yesterday, Friday.

It was reported a 32-year-old man was assaulted by possibly two males around the Poulton Road area, just before 1.20am.

It is believed the offenders used a bat during the assault.

The ambulance service attended and the man was taken to hospital where he was treated for a serious injury to his left eye, and his condition is described as stable.

Det Insp Nick Suffield said: “This was a serious assault, and the victim has sustained serious damage to his eye which has needed medical treatment.

"Unfortunately at present we are still trying to establish exactly where this happened, so would appeal to anyone in the Poulton Road area to come forward if they saw an assault in the early hours of this morning.”

Officers are carrying out forensic and CCTV enquiries to establish the circumstances of the assault.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police CC.
