RESPONDING to Mr Smith's letter of August 10, most people are concerned by the continuing high number of deaths on our roads.

If some road signs are displayed according to the Highway Code but result in confusing drivers, then this may lead to inappropriate vehicle speeds.

This is especially relevant to Brimstage Road between Heswall Hills and the M53 with many sharp bends and awkward junctions.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents points out that "Inappropriate speed contributes to around 11% of all injury collisions reported to the police, 15% of crashes resulting in serious injury and 24% of collisions that result in a death."
