THIEVES used a JCB to force open a supermarket cash machine in Helsby.

The ATM attack happened shortly after 2am on Monday (September 2) at Tesco on Chester Road.

Police officers attended and discovered that the culprits had used the digger smash into the machine.

They had then fled with an unknown quantity of cash, travelling in a white transit van on the A56, Chester Road, in the direction of Hapsford.

Detective Constable Roger Smith said: “Our investigation into this incident is in its very early stages and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible and bring them to justice.

“We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry, including CCTV and forensics.

“As part of this we want to hear from anyone with any information which may aid our investigation.

“The same goes for anyone who believes that they may know who the offenders are, or have CCTV or dashcam footage of them arriving at or fleeing the scene.”
