A GROUP of late-night campers found the perfect spot to pitch their tent in Chester city centre yesterday – a bowling green.
They even had the cheek to set up their temporary home within yards from a council signpost requesting that people do not use the Walls Avenue greens for anything other than bowls.
A resident sent The Standard several photos of the culprits – of which there are thought to be four - after they emerged from their tent on Saturday morning (August 24).
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “This is what greeted me when I walked past the bowling greens near the Water Tower this morning.
“Who in their right mind would think it’s ok to pitch a tent on a bowling green? It defies belief.”
Our reporter visited the scene this afternoon and there does not appear to be any damage. Rubbish, including a now-empty crate of Stella Artois lager, was left close to the public bin.
