Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust chief executives Karen Howell writes for the Globe ...

HERE at Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are really excited to be working in partnership with the Prince's Trust youth charity to support unemployed 16 to 30 year olds by giving them the skills needed to get a job.

Together we will be running an "employability programme" for young people.

They will embark on a four-week work placement with us either in one of our clinical services such as the 0-19 health and wellbeing service, community cardiology and our walk-in centres, or in our corporate services such as the communications and marketing team, human resources and procurement.

The programme will help them to improve their teamwork, communication skills, time management and customer service.

It will also boost their confidence and help to develop their interview skills, as well as looking great on their CV.

We are holding a taster day on Monday, September 23, where young adults can come and find out more about the placements available.

Meanwhile as the last days of summer approach, I hope we see some sunshine for the bank holiday weekend!

Bank holidays and the following few days are notoriously busy for the NHS.

If you do need medical help, please "choose well" and avoid unnecessary visits to A&E.

There are many options for minor illnesses and injuries that may be more appropriate and convenient.

Our walk-in centres at Arrowe Park Hospital and Victoria Central Health Centre will be open seven days a week, 8am to 10pm. Eastham walk-in centre is open every day from noon until 8pm.

Our Minor injuries unit at Victoria Central has X-ray facilities and is also open seven days a week from 9am to 8.30pm.

Full details are on our website www.wirralct.nhs.uk.

You can also contact your GP for non-emergencies or call NHS 111 if you are unsure about the best place to go.
