CLATTERBRIDGE Recycling Centre will be closed to the public for two weeks in October for essential maintenance works.

The site, provided by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority and operated by resource management company Veolia, will be closed from 8pm on Sunday, September 29 until 8am on Monday, October 14.

The temporary closure of the Mount Road facility is to undertake essential repairs and reconstruction to its road surface, kerbstones and concrete hardstandings.

Other works will include upgrading signage, improving traffic access and movement around the site, reconfiguring access to recycling containers, fence repairs and refurbishing staff facilities.

Closure of the facility will mean people should use use the recycling centres in Bidston (Wallasey Bridge Road) or Greenbank Road, West Kirby - Greenbank Road, CH48 5HL

During the course of the shutdown Veolia will staff the access point on Mount Road to direct any visitors to the West Kirby or Bidston Recycling Centres.

Anyone with a Van Permit for Clatterbridge HWRC will be able to visit these two alternative facilities instead.

Cllr Tony Concepcion, MRWA Chairperson, said: "Clatterbridge receives on average 1290 tonnes of material a month from local residents.

"Due to this demand on the facility essential maintenance is required to ensure the Recycling Centre remains safe for customers and employees.

"We're also taking this opportunity to thoroughly check all aspects of the site, undertake any repairs, repaint, review signage and ensure that the site adheres to the high standard required of a public facility.

"We would encourage residents to use an alternative Recycling Centre, or hold on until Clatterbridge re-opens."

Residents using Clatterbridge over the next few weeks will be able to see the closure information on

, on banners at the site, and an information leaflet which details all of the nearest sites for them to use during the temporary closure.
