Emergency services were called to a shipbuilding company in Campbeltown Road, Birkenhead, today after reports a person had fallen from a ladder on a ship.

Merseyside fire crews were at the scene at 9.25am. Two fire engines attended as well as the search and rescue appliance.

On arrival, crews found one person had fallen approximately three metres.

After decking and plates were removed to give access to the man, crews set up a rope system and hauled him to an upper deck, also using rag gear and a stretcher.

The man was then lowered to the ground by crane.

The casualty, who suffered leg injuries, was taken to hospital by ambulance.

His condition is not known at this time.
