"We just want him home and safe," said the mother of a missing man as she thanked the community for coming together to search Ellesmere Port.

The family of Peter Bebbington who was last seen at his Ellesmere Port home in the early hours of Sunday have been overwhelmed by the support from people in the town.

He was last seen at his home address in Langley Court, Ellesmere Port at around 5.20am on Sunday (August 11).

People in Ellesmere Port met at the Gunners Arms before conducing searches on Monday (August 12) evening.

Peter's mother, Alison, 59, said: "There were two searches, one was conducted through Stanney Woods and Backford Dip and the other one was through Lees Lane up to Thornton and right through by the canal.

"About 50 plus people came, which were mainly family - aunties, uncles, cousins, Peters father, sister and younger brother - and also his friends who he grew up with and concerned members of the public which all met at the Gunners with the police.

"The police gave information about where they have conducted searches and where had not yet been covered."

Unfortunately Peter was not found and this morning Cheshire Police said there was no update on the search.

Alison said that Peter had been depressed, and has been in pain since undergoing an operation on his back.

She said: "I am just so grateful to everyone, it has been lovely how everyone has pulled together."

Before last night's search, Peter's father Stephen has searched the local area with friends while Alison stays at home to look after her six grandchildren and in case Peter tries to contact her.

The force helicopter has been used in the search, and police officers say they becoming increasingly concerned for Peter's welfare.
