POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a serious collision on the A556 Chester Road.

The collision, which involved a blue Audi A6 and a white Citroen Cactus, happened at approximately 5.10pm on Sunday (August 11) on the A556, Chester Road, between the junctions of Overdale Lane and the A49, Forest Road.

At the time of the incident it is believed the Citroen was travelling eastbound, towards Manchester, and the Audi was travelling westbound, towards Chester.

The driver of the Citroen, a 26-year-old-woman from Bolton, and the driver of the Audi, a 81-year-old woman from Utkinton, both sustained life changing injuries as a result of the collision.

The pair remain in hospital at the current time; they are both in a stable condition with serious injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the collision has been launched and officers are appealing for anyone who witnesses the incident to come forward.

Police Constable Liz Thompson said: “Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and as part of our investigation we want to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles in the moments leading up to the incident.

“We are also appealing for anyone who thinks that they may have dashcam or CCTV footage which may aid our investigation to get in touch.”
