TRANMERE Rovers' boss Micky Mellon has added to his squad by signing Chelsea midfielder Jacob Maddox on a season-long loan.

Maddox began his career at Bristol City before moving to Chelsea at the age of 14.

He signed his first professional contract at Stamford Bridge in 2018.

He gained experience out on loan at Cheltenham last season where he turned out 44 times for The Robins in all competitions and won their Young Player of the Year award.

Maddox becomes Micky Mellon's 11th new arrival at Prenton Park and is raring to get started.

Upon joining the club, he said: "I'm buzzing. Tranmere is a massive club and they got a great promotion last year.

"I looked at the team and the stadium and it is definitely exciting times for the club, and I am excited to help the team.

"The fan base and the atmosphere in the ground was very impressive when I played here for Cheltenham so that was a big factor in me joining."

Micky Mellon said: "We're very pleased to bring him into the group. He's a talented lad with ambition and he wants to improve.

"We know about his pedigree and what he is about.

"When we look at the way we want to play, he is definitely a player who can fit that.

"He's got a slight knock at the minute but he will get that sorted at Chelsea and we’ll look forward to seeing him in the next few days."
