People living in one part of Wirral are fuming after ‘amateur’ labourers have left their street looking ‘worse than before they started work’.

One man living on Bidston Avenue in Birkenhead says he and his neighbours have campaigned for months to have their roads and pavements fixed – as huge tree roots were coming up and the gullies were blocked.

The man says repair works started yesterday morning (Thursday) but were ‘completed’ within just a few hours.

He said: “It’s taken us so long to finally be heard. We had to write to [our MP] Frank Field, and then he wrote to the council and eventually they sent people out to supposedly fix the problem.

“It’s been a tripping hazard because of the tree roots and there are elderly people living along this road. Not to mention the flooding because the gullies get blocked.

“They rocked up, did god knows what and then left. And it’s supposedly finished.

“It needs a cordon around it, someone could injure themselves.

“It looks worse than before. It’s in a right state.”

A spokesperson for Wirral Council said: “We have received a complaint about the work and will be meeting with the resident to look at the best way to resolve their concern.”
