LEGENDARY Merseyside band The Lightning Seeds will headline the finale of an amazing weekend at Birkenhead Park.

Taking place on Sunday, September 8, the band will be joined by other iconic Merseysiders - The Christians and China Crisis.

This 'coming home' show will form part of the Wirral Food & Drink Festival across the weekend and a performance from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday, September 7.

Formed in Liverpool in 1989 by frontman Ian Broudie and are responsible for tracks such as Life of Riley, Lucky You and Three Lions - a collaboration between comedians Baddiel and Skinner for England's Euro '96 effort.

The Christians are known for having the highest selling debut album of any artist at Island Records with hits such as Forgotten Town, Ideal World and When the Fingers Point.

With five top 40 singles, China Crisis are best known for their singles such as Black Man Ray, Wishful Thinking and Christian.

Cllr Christine Spriggs, cabinet member for culture and tourism said: “We are thrilled to bring Lightning Seeds, The Christians and China Crisis to Birkenhead Park this September.

"These incredible bands have collectively and individually helped shape the Merseyside music scene, producing classic hits of their own and working with incredible artists.

"Their instantly recognisable songs have been adored by music fans from across the globe and showcased the talent of our city region.

“2019 has been an exciting year for Wirral as Liverpool City Region’s Borough of Culture.

"Wirral Council have developed a ground-breaking programme, featuring unmissable events like this. The first weekend of September is shaping up to be an incredible celebration as Birkenhead Park plays host to a number of stellar events.”

Tickets are priced at £17.50 / £15 (concessions) + booking fee, children aged six to 16 are £10 each, while entry for under 5s is free with an adult or concession ticket.
