NEW Ferry Butterfly Park has been awarded a Green Flag for the seventh year.

The community-run nature reserve is among 1,970 UK parks receiving the honour for being a quality park or green space.

The park’s founder, Dr Hilary Ash said: "We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining the Butterfly Park to such a high standard."

Bands in park

'SWING Era' will be performing in Ashton Park, West Kirby this Sunday from 2-4pm.

The event is organised by Friends of Ashton Park, will take place in the upper park.

Free entry but donations welcome. Bring a folding chair, mat or blanket and a brolly.

Farmers market

WEST Kirby Farmers' Market will be open this Saturday.

Held at St Andrew's Church Hall, Graham Rd, West Kirby from 9am-1pm it is organised by local volunteers, producers and Transition Town West Kirby.

Bird club

HUGH Stewart will give an illustrated talk on Bardsey Island as Wirral Bird Club’s guest this Thursday (July 25).

It takes place at Kingsmead School Hall, Bertram Drive, Hoylake (7.30pm start).

Support group

A SUPPORT group for men who have experienced, or currently have, mental health issues or just need general support has been launched in Merseyside.

Ego Mens support aims to provide a safe and nonjudgemental space for men across Merseyside to be able to talk and not suffer in silence.

Cake demo

A CAKE decorating demonstration will be held at Melrose Hall in Hoylake this Friday (July 26) from 7-9pm.

It will include lots of hints and tips for anyone wanting to learn how to decorate cakes, tiered cakes, sugar flowers and cake sculpting of a childs novelty cake. All cakes made on the night will be in a raffle.
