POLICE are investigating after a caravan was set on fire in Prescot on Monday evening (July 15).

Firefighters were called to Station Road, Prescot shortly after 7pm to a caravan on fire.

Shocked residents took to social media after seeing the fire on Monday to express their anger at the arson.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We’re appealing for witnesses following a suspected arson in Prescot yesterday, Monday, July 15.

"At around 7.10pm, patrols came across a caravan on fire in Station Road. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended and the fire was extinguished. No one was injured.

"At this stage the incident is being treated as arson and enquiries are ongoing to locate those responsible."

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service added: "Crews were alerted a 7.07pm and were on scene at 7.11pm.

"We sent two engines, it was a caravan on fire.

"We used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and we were there until 7.28pm.

"We have handed the incident over to the police."
