FLORENCE Nightingale and a suffragette made a guest appearance at Lostock Green Methodist Church summer fete on Saturday.

Adults stepped into the shoes of various historical characters as children dressed up as superheroes for the annual event.

The family fun day on Broadfields playing fields attracted around a hundred people and raised £1,360 towards church funds.

Hannah Green, seven, a pupil at Lower Peover Primary School, was crowned Sunday School queen 2019 by deacon Rachel Thomas-Prasad.

She loves helping out on her family dairy farm and followed in the footsteps of her sister Charlotte who was a previous queen.

Visitors were invited to guess the names of hens and try their hand at various other games.

A tombola, raffles and selection of stalls selling plants, books and bric-a-brac helped to boost funds.

A fire engine proved a big attraction for children.

Fete committee member Isobel Moore said: "The sun shone and everyone enjoyed delicious cream teas. It is very much a quintessential traditional fete, people sat on bales in the ring watching Northwich Air Cadet Band and Little Kickers football.
