Members of the Marie Curie Fundraising Groups in Runcorn and Widnes have raised more than £400 though collections, bake sales and raffles in local parks.

The fundraising events took place at Esposito’s Ice-Cream parlours in Runcorn Hill Park and Victoria Park, and were part of Marie Curie’s annual Blooming Great Tea Party campaign which encourages people to host tea parties to help provide vital care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families.

The money raised also helps fund vital research to ensure people get better care at the end of their lives.

Anne Price, chair of the Runcorn Fundraising Group, said: “Many of us have had personal experience of the wonderful care and support that Marie Curie give to people when they need it most, so it’s good to be able to give something back, and have some fun at the same time.

“We need more people to join our Runcorn group so if you’re looking to make new friends and want to help raise money for an important cause, please contact our Fundraising team on 0151 801 1405.”

Tina Gill, Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for Runcorn and Widnes, said: “We’re very grateful for the support from our local fundraising groups, all of who are volunteers that give up their time to help us to make sure that more dying people get the care and support they need at the end of their lives.

“Fundraising is a really enjoyable experience - you can do it on your own, with friends or colleagues or as part of a fundraising group, and Marie Curie will support you from the moment you sign up.”
