HOW sad to see the old Savoy - ABC Cinema in Argyle Street under the final days of demolition.

It opened in October, 1938, so was just 80 years old last year.

Who can forget the great days of the Saturday morning pictures with the ABC Minors club and the great serials each week Flash Gordon, Roy Rogers, Laurel & Hardy - oh such happy days.

I remember the cinema making front page news in 1978 when Grease mania hit the town and the queue going around the block the same for Jaws and Superman.

To think only a couple of weeks ago the old Classic in Conway Street was on fire and demolished the town has lost two of its last original cinemas and lots of memories for regular cinema goers.

The ABC did close as a cinema in 1982 and became a snooker hall, and fitness club but now will remain just a memory for a lot of people in the town.
