A furious mum said she nearly crashed after teenage yobs pelted eggs through her car window at a dangerous traffic junction.

Clare Streeta was left raging when two boys hurled eggs at her car on Stanley Road in Birkenhead, then lobbed stones at her when she tried to approach them.

The mum-of-four had been driving home to Prenton after taking her teenage daughter, who has been suffering from anxiety, out for a relaxing lunch on Monday June 10.

Clare Streeta‎ was pelted by eggs on Stanley Road in Birkenhead

But their nice afternoon was ruined when Clare became drenched in egg yolk and almost crashed into another car because of the menacing youths.

Clare said: “I was driving from Asda to go home, I had my daughter with me.

“I heard a bang on the car. I turned round and I saw these two lads, they were chucking eggs at the car. The window was open so it went over me and the car.

“They were probably about age 13 or 14 and they were on their bikes near the telephone box. They weren’t bothered. I don’t know how their parents can be proud.”

The incident left Clare, who only passed her driving test in November, shaken and needing to to find cash to deep-clean her car.

She said: “I could have crashed. I was just starting to take off after the lights changed. I had to slam on the brakes. It really shook me up.

“I turned round and parked up because it really wound me up. I was not happy. Then they started chucking stones at me.

“There was another lady having the same problem, she was on the phone to the police. I think they are targeting women.”

Clare was so angry she reported the incident to Merseyside Police.

But the youths had run away before officers arrived, meaning no action could be taken.

The 36-year-old claims officers told her it was a recurring problem at that location, and questioned why local supermarkets were continuing to sell eggs to the troublesome teens. .

She hopes that by speaking out it could make the children think twice about throwing eggs and other objects at drivers, before someone gets seriously injured or even killed.

She said: “It annoys me. I have a child with severe autism. I had to go and pick him up from the school looking like a mess. If he was in the car I would have definitely crashed. He can’t cope with stuff like that.

“I was lucky. I am quite a confident driver. What if they had done that to someone elderly that was driving or an ambulance? It was a really busy junction.

“They have got no respect for anyone. They just need to grow up. They could kill someone if they don’t stop. It’s just ridiculous.

“I just don’t trust anyone anymore.”

The concerned mum also took to Facebook to warn other drivers to be careful at the Stanley Road junction.

It led to a flurry of comments from people who have also been victims of similar egg attacks at that location and elsewhere in Wirral.

Merseyside Police confirmed they received reports of the incident and have asked anyone with information to help identify the offenders to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Merseyside Police have received reports of criminal damage to a car on Stanley Road, Birkenhead last Monday (10th June).

“Officers were called shortly after 2pm following reports that two unknown offenders, believed to be aged around 14/15, and riding bikes had thrown eggs at a moving car and then made off towards Ilchester Road.

“Police attended and searched the area, however unfortunately the offenders were not located.

“Anyone that saw the incident or has information that could help us identify those responsible should DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting 19100301374.”
